Wishmaker Table Ware
For reference: see pages 204-205 in Franciscan Catalina & Other Gladding, McBean Wares.
Wishmaker dinnerware was made by Gladding, McBean & Co. for Wishmaker House – hence it’s name “Wishmaker.” Wishmaker House was a line of merchandise which included furniture, linens, decorative accessories and dinnerware. The Wishmaker House line was in the Federal American style, popular in the 1940s during a period of nationalism in the US and a movement to not be involved in the world stage as a world war loomed on the horizon in Europe.
The Gladding, McBean Franciscan Wishmaker tableware was produced in 1941 for Wishmaker House. The line was discontinued in 1941. The glaze colors for Wishmaker tableware were Wishmaker Brown, Revere Red , Copley Coral , Federal Gold and Blue; all in a satin glaze.
Wishmaker House was sold within Department Stores and Furniture stores as an ensemble. Included in the Wishmaker collection was linens, furniture, wallpaper, and other household goods. Revival reproductions included Duncan Phyfe inspired furniture. The Wishmaker House line did not last long, ending around the time of WWII. The name did go on for years for a house & furniture store on the East Coast.
